Happy Songkran!

Well Songkran is over and that was crazy. Millions of people running around Bangkok with water pistols and buckets full of ice cold water. If you go outside during Songkran you’re fair game and will be soaked quickly. Lots of locals also ride around on mopeds and in the back of pick up trucks to soak you walking by side the road. Definitely a good way to cool you down.

Today we went to a insectarium and butterfly gardens, very nice but there seemed to be more butterflies in the gardens surrounding the dome than inside.

It was also near where the building under construction collapsed on March 28th from the earthquake in Myanmar so we went to see the clear up operation in action. Very sad knowing there’s still around 50 people unaccounted for and 44 already confirmed dead.

We then went to see the Golden Buddha in temple of Wat Traimit. Very interesting to walk around as it’s the world’s largest solid gold Buddha weighing 5.5 tons (est. 250-482 million US dollars!).

Tonight is our last night in this hotel near Lumphini park and tomorrow we go to our next hotel near Khao San Road for another 3 nights. We’ve loved our first week and the tan is coming on!
