Cat Ba Island

Our stay on Cat Ba has been very relaxing and peaceful. We’ve done a lot of chilling by the pool and enjoyed listening to the extreme thunderstorms at night!

View of the sea from our Homestay.

Unfortunately the local beach is not one you’d like to sit on as I think there’s more plastic than sand… Luckily just 100 metres away from the beach we found a lovely bar and we spent many hours chilling here, most of the time being the only customers!

We did venture out to the main town of Cat Ba for one morning and spent a couple hours looking around. Before we came to Cat Ba luckily we found out that there is a lot of building work going on in the centre and that’s why we stayed out in a village…

Main bay in Cat Ba…. Seems excessive for an island…

We did find a lovely rooftop coffee shop to look over the massive building site… Then it was time to run back to our lovely village 6km away!

Salted coffee time!

Today we have left the island and are on our way to Hoa Lu in Ninh Binh district. It is the ancient capital of Vietnam so we’ll be back exploring many temples and museums!

Our Homestay even gave us a lift to the bus stop in his truck!

The journey is only 4 hours so a nice short one!
