Goodbye Vietnam!

Today we leave Vietnam after nearly 3 months here. It’s been amazing and surprising how different each part of the country is. We’re flying from Ho Chi Minh City to Phuket, Thailand with Vietjet (VJ809).

Time to annoy Tasha with plane facts

In our last few days in Vietnam we squeezed in some more sightseeing. Firstly, we went to a secret weapons cache located in a residential road in the city centre. It was used by Saigon commandos Unit 5 for the Tet offensive on the Independence Palace in 1968.

Lots of weapons

Upstairs they also had the uniform that the commandos wore during the offensive and an original motorbike used to get to the Independence Palace. Just watch your head on the staircase!

Cool ride

We really wanted a Sunday roast after being away for nearly 6 months and of course the place to find it was an Irish pub! They also had the F1 on so we stayed to watch that.

Shame it wasn’t chicken

Just down the road we found a lovely sky bar called Luna & Co which had amazing views of Landmark 81 lit up.

Before the lightning!

Next stop was Ben Thanh Market. It is the most famous market in Ho Chi Minh with roots dating back to the 17th century and the current building dating to 1914.

Lots and lots of stalls

Throughout Vietnam we kept seeing a Pizza chain called Pizza 4P’s and every restaurant had amazing reviews so we planned to try it for one of our last meals in Vietnam.

Entrance, every restaurant is themed differently

It’s Japanese founded with a farm-to-table approach and they even own a dairy farm in the central highlands of Vietnam to produce the Burrata cheese. It did not disappoint! The best Pizza we’ve ever had. They even have their own beer made from pizza flour!!

Parma Ham and Burrata Pizza

Before we got to last nights accommodation we had a few hours to waste so we went to Oasis Cafe that is known to have lovely decor and lots of Koi. The only problem was with two large backpacks the only way to get to a table was balancing on stones… luckily no wet feet!

Nice hot ginger tea!

Our flight now is only 1hr 30mins and then we have nearly two months to explore the south of Thailand. Bring on the Land of Smiles!
