Best view so far on Koh Phi Phi!

On our last full day in Ao Nang we headed over to a brand new shopping centre called Central Krabi that only opened a week before. It was lovely with over 100 shops and very modern.

Very busy!

Inside the main area is called Andaman Market with lots of different stalls and a huge food court with many different options.

We went for the ice cream!

In the afternoon we took part in a beach clean which is organised by Trash Hero’s. They meet every week and invite anyone to help (expats, tourists, locals etc).

21 volunteers this week

Just in one hour 161kg of rubbish was collected! Sadly enough after every high tide more rubbish is washed up everyday but it definitely looks a lot cleaner than some of the pictures we’ve seen.

Afterwards we popped over the road to the main night market for dinner and came across an animal that we probably won’t be trying…

Towards the left… too many teeth for us!

The next morning we got picked up in a minivan to head to the ferry port in Krabi town. Then we had a two hour journey to Phi Phi Island.

Boarding the ferry

As we came here last year we knew exactly where to head to first for a great chicken fried rice, Sunflower Restaurant. It was completely destroyed in the 2004 tsunami and reconstructed using the debris left over.

The best chicken fried rice!

Inside the bar they have incorporated the wreckage of a couple longtail boats that were also destroyed.

Very sad but a nice way to remember the many people who died on the island

The next day we headed up to the famous viewpoint looking over the island. After a very hot and tiring climb we made it to the first viewpoint.

Lots of steps…
Not bad but it gets better…

After another little climb you get to the second viewpoint…. It looks like a screen saver picture and even when you look at it we couldn’t quite believe that it’s real…

Main island of Phi Phi Don and then Phi Phi Lee on the left where Maya Bay is made famous by the movie ‘The Beach’

In the afternoon we hired a Canoe and headed out towards Monkey Beach. We had the perfect weather and the water was so clear. We got to see so many different fish many of which were very brightly coloured.

200 baht for an hour (£2.36 each!)

Monkey Beach is just outside the bay around to the left. It’s only accessible by the water so has remained an unspoiled spot on the island.

Monkey Beach

We had great entertainment watching the monkeys grab hold of people’s belongings from their canoes…. We decided to keep to the safety on the water!

Cheeky monkeys

As we started to head back a bird that we haven’t ever seen landed on a rock right next to us…

Pacific Reef Heron

The weather has taken a turn for the worst so we’ve added a couple more nights onto our stay. Hopefully it will get better for our next journey to Koh Yao Yai!
