It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Kuala Lumpur!

Once we checked into our accommodation on the famous Petaling Street we headed straight up to the rooftop to see the view…

The huge skyscraper is Merdeka 118 which at 678.9m tall makes it the second tallest building in the world. Next year an observation deck will open on level 118 and also a huge mall at its base.

Petaling Street was established in the mid-19th century and has hundreds of stalls selling cheap clothes and designer dupes. It also has many famous restaurants selling different culinary dishes including Chinese, Indian and Malaysian.

Just around the corner from where we’re staying is another lovely BookXcess store, this one being in the old Rex Cinema which was once one of KL’s most iconic theatres.

Lots of books

On our first evening out in Kuala Lumpur centre we headed straight across to the world famous Petronas Twin Towers. From 1996 to 2004 they were the tallest buildings in the world at 451.9m.

Wow

This is where will be going this evening to watch the Symphony Lake Water show and also where we are hoping to watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks! At the base of the towers is yet another mall called Suria KLCC which we will explore more.

On Sunday we went to hunt out a traditional roast dinner to really get in the Christmas spirit. After some research we found a restaurant called The Cellar in Bukit Bintang and went to give it a try… it didn’t disappoint!

It was so good we booked a table for Christmas Lunch! That beef!!

On Monday Tasha tried another TikTok famous snack near us called CookieCrumbs. Tasha had the Seasalt Triple Chocolate cookie and it was definitely worth the hype!

Scrumptious

In the evening we had booked to see Avatar Fire & Ash. We headed back to Sunway Velocity mall where TGV cinemas has the largest IMAX in Malaysia at 26m wide!

The film was brilliant! Insane graphics, amazing in 3D and easily the best surround sound system we’ve heard.

Now that’s how to watch a movie

Yesterday the first place we visited was The National Museum of Malaysia. It displays the whole history of the country from its natural geological formations right up to the country’s independence.

We also got to see the very first flag raised by the Federation of Malaya marking the birth of independence from the British. It was raised in 1957 at Selangor Club ground (now called Independence Square).

We love a bit of history

Outside of the museum they had some vehicles on display such as a Rolls Royce from the 1920’s which was driven by high ranking officials. They also have a couple different era Proton cars from across the years (Malaysia’s main car manufacturer). And below shows a British locomotive which travelled 1.5 million miles between 1921-1969 on the main East Coast railway.

Just a short walk away is The National Planetarium. There’s lots of different things to do and see inside including an anti-gravity room and also the original suit from the first ever Malaysian astronaut.

Afterwards, just a 5 minute walk away is the Royal Malaysian Police Museum. There’s three different indoor galleries starting with early policing moving onto modern force evolution and ending with recent emergencies.

There was also a whole vault of firearms from vintage to the ones used in the police force today. It was interesting to see homemade ones from the Malaysian emergency from everyday items.

Outside there was a wide selection of vehicles including planes, tanks, motorcycles and cars.

In the afternoon after a bit of Christmas shopping we checked out Berjaya Times Square Mall as believe it or not it has an entire theme park inside!

Outside the mall with the monorail track in front

We headed to the viewing platform and waited to watch the main rollercoaster…

This is on the 5th floor of the mall!

Today we’ve got a little more shopping to do and then we’re heading to watch some snowfall in 32 degree heat!
