On Gili Air we stayed in a lovely bungalow called Follow the Rabbit. They had two rabbits that had free roam of the garden and did a great job in eating a lot of the plants!

Gili Air is one of the three islands that make up the Gili Islands. Its name translates to ‘Small island with water’ as it the only Gili island with underground freshwater. On the Gili Islands motorised traffic is banned so most people get around on bikes or by horse-drawn carriages called Cidomos.

It’s a very small island so only takes about 20 minutes to walk from one side to the other. Most of the paths especially around the circumference of the island is sand so the best way is by foot.

As we are visiting in rainy season it’s very quiet and there’s not many tourists at all so it was mainly just the local population of around 1,800 on the island. One of the evenings we had a massive thunderstorm, luckily the restaurant we went to lent us two umbrellas to help us wade back to our room!

We went to walk around the whole island but kept getting caught in the rain. Luckily we came across a small beach bar and spent the afternoon there with some locals.

On our last evening we went to a lovely restaurant called Bella Ciao where we sat right on the beach. We both shared a couple pizzas and they were delicious!

It was then time to head over to the port and get a ferry over to Gili Trawangan. We bought our ferry ticket for 45,000 IDR (£1.95) and arrived just 30 minutes later.

We then had a short ten minute walk to our accommodation located in the busy east side of the island.

On our first evening we went to Kame Ramen that had great reviews and is styled in a traditional Japanese restaurant style. It was very nice, us both having the Shio Ramen (chicken) and Cold Ocha (green tea). We will be heading back!

Yesterday we went and walked around the whole island a distance of 7km which would be normally fine but it was insanely hot and we melted!

In the evening we went and watched the sunset on the west side of the island. The locals ride horses along the beach to see if anyone wants a ride, we enjoyed watching!

Today we gave snorkelling a go as that’s the main attraction on the Gili Islands. After Tasha having slight issues with her mask, we had a great time! We swam around the reefs on the north of the island and saw lots of fish and got to swim along side two different big green turtles! So cool!

Tomorrow we leave Gili T and at this point we haven’t picked where to go! We’ll get deciding this evening. Ten more days in Indonesia before our next country!
