We’ve been exploring lots of the many Wats (temples) in Ayutthaya. We checked out the Chao Sam Phraya National Museum which explains a lot about the history of the Wats and displays many treasures recovered from within them.

It’s was 37 degrees so after a 20 minute walk we desperately needed an iced coffee! Luckily we came across a Cafe Amazon (Thailand’s Starbucks, £1 a drink not £5 like at home!).

That evening we did a boat trip which goes around the whole of Ayutthaya and stops off at 3 different temples and finishes at a night market. The temples were amazing but the night market not the best. This trip was organised by our hotel and cost 200 baht (about £4.50). Very good value for about 3.5 hours. Tasha loved the boat rocking when everyone got on and off!

The second temple we stopped off at was Wat Phutthaisawan. It had a reclining Buddha to see and we also got to watch some monks praying.

Yesterday we checked out the Japanese Village Museum which shows you the history of Japanese trade links to Ayutthaya. Such a peaceful place.

Then we went to Wat Phra Si Sanphet. It was the holiest temple on the site of Royal Palace. A lot of the area was destroyed in 1767 during the Burmese – Siamese War.

We have just checked out of our hotel and going to check out a few local shopping centres. Tonight we have our train at 9pm which will take us all the way to Chang Mai hopefully arriving there at 8am tomorrow morning. It could be an interesting 12 hours in 3rd class! But for £8 I would sit on the roof!
We’re going to stay in Chiang Mai for 10 days as we’ve seen lots to do. Top of the list for Tasha is a cooking class and for me an outdoor water park!
