Our first stop in Hue was to see Hue Imperial City. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site located on the Perfume River and served as the imperial capital of the Nguyen Dynasty for 143 years.

At 159 hectares it is absolutely huge with many different buildings, temples and gardens to explore.

The Thai Hoa Palace is where all 13 coronations took place of the kings during the Dynasty. It was considered the centre of the country. It has been very nicely restored and had many preserved items inside such as the original golden throne.

Our favourite building in the whole city was the Kien Trung Palace which was the home of the last two emperors. It was completely destroyed in 1947 by the Viet Minh during the Indochina war.

Luckily we had seen pretty much the whole city when a very large thunderstorm rolled in and we jumped under a shelter in the royal gardens. It was all okay until it started to flood!
The next day we went to a digital art centre called Songlab. Luckily as it was a weekday we had the whole experience to ourselves!
It was made up of six different rooms that all have been made by different artists from the area.

The next stop for us was Dong Ba market. It had a large selection of items from clothes to vegetables. It was extremely hot when walking around and we somehow managed to get out of the clothing section without buying anything!

We found another lovely cafe in Hue called Ngam Ca Phe which had amazing drinks and felt like we stepped back 50 years.

As we were leaving our hotel to get the next bus to Da Nang there was this very funky moped outside that we had to get a picture of…

The bus to Da Nang was a nice short one for Vietnam at only 3 hours. Let’s just say I wouldn’t have wanted it to be any longer…

When we got to our hotel we were happily surprised to be upgraded to a honeymoon room with a lovely decorated bed, not bad for £6 a night!

We’re in Da Nang for 5 days with lots to see, including an extremely nice beach hopefully!
