World’s biggest Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan!

On our fist day in Koh Phangan we made our way to see Leela Beach which has a lovely wooden walkway around the rocks that leads to a small lighthouse.

No jogging allowed!

We then checked out Haad Rin Beach to see what it was like before the Full Moon Party started. We were impressed by how clean it was and the wonderful white sand.

Sleeping area already ready!

We headed down to the beach when it was starting to get busy and stopped to get our luminescent body paint. Tasha got some lovely flowers and I ended up with a random, very badly painted dragon…

Paint doesn’t work on hair!

After walking down the beach a couple of times to check out all the different music sets we watched the pull up bar hanging challenge. Hang for 90 seconds and win three crates of Chang beer!

Those bars had definitely been oiled!

All the way down the beach there were many fire shows that go on all night and the brave people can get involved!

Even the dogs!

The Full Moon Party in Koh Phangan was started by a group of backpackers from Paradise Bungalows that threw a farewell party for a group of friends in the late 1980’s. Since then it continues to grow in size sometimes attracting more than 50,000 people.

Getting busier!

As it got later into the night the real games came out! It was very entertaining watching people try to jump over a burning skipping rope! We decided to be spectators for this one!

How it should be done…
How most of them went…

It was a great evening but we purposefully booked a ferry to Koh Samui for 9am the next morning so we didn’t get carried away! The official end time is 7am but many people continue partying the whole next day! We would definitely recommend to anyone to give it a go!

Nearly got a clear view of the Moon

After a fairly short sleep we walked down to the port to catch our ferry to Koh Samui. There were quite a few people looking pretty worse for wear and the strong winds creating choppy conditions didn’t help them!

Time to walk the plank with a hangover!

We first stayed in Bophut which is on the northern half of Koh Samui home to the famous Fisherman’s Village. The area used to be a fishing hub but has been transformed for tourism. Its walking street comes alive at night with many lovely restaurants, souvenir shops and market stalls.

Entrance onto the walking street

Every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday a huge night market is set up along Wharf Street with hundreds of stalls and some great different food options!

Very hot, lots of people, maybe too many

Coco Tam’s is a very famous spot where you can get drinks and food to watch a fire show on the beach. It looked lovely but slightly out of budget for us backpackers!

Very snazzy

We discovered a chicken rotisserie restaurant which reminded us of Nando’s so of course we had to give it a go.

Lovely succulent chicken indeed!

This morning before we left Bophut we visited the Wat Bo Phuttharam which is known for having a large black Buddha on a boat surrounded by a moat full of fish.

Definitely different to most Wat’s we’ve seen so far!

We arrived in our new location on the southeast coast of Koh Samui called Lamai this afternoon. The small resort called Green Canyon is absolutely stunning with a lush green garden and wonderful pool. It comes with the added plus of two adorable rescue dogs called Bo and Bella.

Our bungalow
View from the pool, watch out for those coconuts!

This afternoon we popped down to Lamai beach which is just 100m down the road. We’re staying on the quieter end so it’s very peaceful with crystal clear waters!

Very calm today
So clear!

We’ve got 4 nights here and we’re definitely going to enjoy!
