Exploring Koh Samui, Thailand’s second largest island

About a 10 minute walk from our bungalow resort was the entrance to Lamai Viewport. You could pay to go up by cable car or walk up a steep path, we needed the exercise so took the steps!

Not bad

Near where we stayed in Lamai there was a large Makro grocery store. They had a huge selection of fresh meat, fish and veg. It reminded us a lot of Costco.

Best looking tuna steaks we’ve seen!

We strolled into the main town centre of Lamai that took about 30 minutes to take a look at the Fresh Food Market. Very reasonably prices on a selection of fresh veg, meat, fish and pre made Thai dishes.

Real life Lord of the Flies!

We continued for another 30 minutes to a popular beach called Silver Beach located in Crystal Bay. It was a little too busy for us but we were extremely hot so still decided to take a dip and attempt to snorkel…

There’s about 200 people to the left of this picture… We didn’t stay long!

In the evening we watched the sunset on the beach near us, it was lovely but we’re still waiting for that perfect sunset… it will happen soon!

Pretty in pink

The next evening after a day of sunbathing by the pool (maybe slightly too much…) we checked out Lamai Night Market. It was fairly small but still nice with a good selection of drinks and food. Tasha tried some freshly made gyozas and found her favourite brownie again!

Lamai Night Market
Lots of choice

For breakfast we found a nice hidden cafe near the viewpoint which had a lovely natural pool that you could use.

Don’t mind if I do

Our time at Green Canyon in Lamai was amazing and we would definitely recommend! It was soon time to move on again. We got a taxi to Lipa Noi and on the way we passed a strange looking passenger on the back of a pickup truck…

Hope he paid!

We had one evening in Lipa Noi before catching our next ferry. There wasn’t much around to do during the day but we tried to get to a viewpoint within a navy base. We were politely told it wasn’t possible by a Thai Soldier with a rather large gun.

Navy boat

In the evening we went to watch the sunset on the beach and noticed a suspicious looking object washed up… we covered our eyes at the people swimming close by.

After further analysis we believe it’s a Box Jellyfish. Stay away!

Today we caught a ferry from Koh Samui back to the mainland. It took 1 hour and 30 minutes and was empty so lots of room to stretch out!

First ones on!
Not sure I’d call that a lifeboat…

Then we got on a minibus for three hours to Krabi town where we swapped into another minibus for an hour down to the ferry port. It was a tight squeeze…

And yes, it’s just boxes of alcohol

Then we got on a short 15 minute ferry across to Koh Lanta. We’ll save showing where we’re staying for the next five nights as let’s just say it’s £3.80 a night and on stilts above water… For now let’s enjoy this sunset!

Getting better…
