Around the World in 423 Days!

And that’s a wrap! We didn’t quite do it as fast as Phileas Fogg and Passepartout but we did circumnavigate the world! In some ways it felt like we only just took off from London but it has also felt like a lifetime ago.

So here’s the roundup…

We visited 14 countries in 14 months across 3 continents…

  • Thailand 🇹🇭
  • Laos 🇱🇦
  • Vietnam 🇻🇳
  • Malaysia 🇲🇾
  • Singapore 🇸🇬
  • Indonesia 🇮🇩
  • Philippines 🇵🇭
  • China 🇨🇳 Including Hong Kong 🇭🇰
  • Taiwan 🇹🇼
  • South Korea 🇰🇷
  • Japan 🇯🇵
  • Australia 🇦🇺
  • New Zealand 🇳🇿
  • USA 🇺🇸

To get to all those countries we traveled roughly around 70,000km, nearly enough distance to go around the world twice! Here’s every form of transport we took…

Flights – 23 ✈️

Trains (not including metros) – 6 🚂

Buses – 39! 🚌

Ferries/Boats – 29 ⛴️

Taxis/Uber/Grab – 50+ 🚕

Trams – 10+ 🚃

Cable Cars – 20+ 🚠

We stayed in every type of accommodation you can think of from a tent on the edge of a rainforest in Thailand for £2.40 a night to a private bamboo villa in the countryside of Bali for £36 a night.

We’ve stayed in hotels, hostels, homestays, BnB’s, apartments, farmsteads, motels and a tent.

Across the last 423 days we’ve stayed at 98 different accommodations (we’re very good at packing our bags now!).

We tracked every single penny we spent and averaged £32.02 a day each which we still can’t believe especially with adding some rather expensive countries on at the end! We’ve just paid nearly £100 for a train from Heathrow to home so you can guess we’re slightly missing Asia!

We came across lots of very exotic animals along the way but luckily only ended up with lots of mosquito bites and a scratch from a kitten! 🐈

These are the animals we shared our room with…

  • Lots of Cockroaches and Mosquitoes 🪳 🦟
  • Lots of Geckos 🦎
  • Huntsman Spider 🕷️
  • Scorpion 🦂
  • A Rat 🐀
  • A swarm of flying Ants 🐜

Outside we had some very close encounters with…

  • King Cobra 🐍
  • Praying Mantis
  • A few more unidentified snakes 🐍
  • Lots of Jellyfish 🪼
  • Lots of Stray dogs, mainly friendly apart from a few 🐕
  • Monkeys 🙈 Some very angry Monkeys 🙉
  • Tiny Lizards to huge Monitor Lizards 🦎
  • And many, many more!

We’ve collected the bottle caps from all the most popular beers from all 14 countries 🍻

We have also kept a money note from all 14 countries + Hong Kong and we even managed to get a note from North Korea at the DMZ! 💵

We can’t really summarise the trip as so much happened but we both agree that it was AMAZING! We have so many stories and when we’re 60 in the pub we’ll be able to talk for hours!! We really recommend grasping the chance of a lifetime to experience some unforgettable adventures.

As they say, you can always make more money but you can never get back time…

Until our next adventure!

P.s our train has now been delayed. Welcome back to the UK!
